In need of an inspiring, creative coffee venue to chat through ideas for an upcoming collaboration with a fellow neon creative, we decided that The Lovington Bakery in Wincanton was the place to do this. Wholesale enterprise Lievito Bakery in Lovington, near Castle Cary, Somerset, has expanded into new high street premises in Wincanton, under the name The Lovington Bakery.
The smell of fresh stonebaked pizza, bountiful displays of fat almond croissants and chocolate tiffin slices to die for, hit you when you enter the door. The interior with rustic long benches & tables with vintage and industrial design touches makes for a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to enjoy a family gathering or coffee catch up with friends.
Although The Lovington Bakery has only recently opened a retail shop, Lievito has been supplying handmade artisan breads to restaurants, cafés, delis and events for several years and proved so popular that owner Phil Nicodemi has long been looking for retail premises in the area.
Lievito Bakery, is so named for Nicodemi's Italian heritage, (Lievito is Italian for yeast). But locally, Lievito has come to be known as the Lovington Bakery due to its location – hence the name of the new retail venture.
Visitors to the Wincanton shop will discover a wide range of handmade, hand shaped, organic breads and pastries. Only high quality organic flour and top grade yeast are used and no chemicals are added. Unlike many major bread manufacturers who use additives to force their dough to rise more quickly, Lovington allows the doughs to prove naturally for around 24 hours before baking.
The shop is open 8.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Saturday each week.
Having sat next to a party of people enjoying the most delicious looking pizzas, the new Monday pizza night 5-8pm is a definite must for our next visit, as is grabbing another slice of the delicious tiffin and a cup of tea when passing through the high street to the post office to ship BON orders.
